New Zealand Petfoods was founded in 1987 by Russell and Karen Gawn primarily as a farm based processing operation providing local farmers with Real Meat Dog Tucker.

Adair Abattoirs now run three stock collection trucks throughout the Mid Canterbury to North Otago region, which enables them to offer a quick and simple pick up service for farmers. It also has a number of MAF certified shooters contracted to supply rabbits, hares and wallabies. Stock that is processed through the abattoirs includes cows, calves, horses, alpaca, goats, wallabies, hares, rabbits and sheep.

Currently New Zealand Petfoods provides a range of chilled and frozen raw meat petfood products to most supermarkets in the South Island. There are also Factory Shops, one at 32 Redruth Street, Timaru and the newest addition, at 16 Ouse Street, Oamaru, which sell a large range of pet food products for Cats and Dogs as well as treats and toys. These products are also freighted to a number of direct customers and shops throughout New Zealand.

Over the years we have we have done a lot of alterations to the factory and the business to get where we are today. We have our own standalone pet food processing factory about 20km from Winton. We also have our own small super market label. Our boneless beef products has been exported to Thailand, Korea. Some of our current bulk markets include other pet food operators in Auckland, Christchurch and Tauranga. These operators then process it further for their own super market orders including processing it for the American market.
