Key findings from similar Business Models Website Analysis

Key Things to think of for our website platform (and potentially business model)

Based off analysis of 6 other "similar" business models' websites

CONTENT: ORGANISATION FOCUS/SERVICE PROVIDED
  • key features of these business models were really focussed around bringing hunters and farmers (and sometimes communities) together
  • most of them had a strong focus on community
  • they all had registration capabilities and contact forms
  • they all had ability to select by region to ensure hunters were matched with farmers
  • most of these relied on the hunter and farmer to make the contact using the website as a platform rather than organised by the website organisation
  • terms and conditions and who was liable for what was at least somewhere on each website but not necessarily clearly marked
  • some information was provided where some of the businesses were more focused on organising hunting events rather than connecting hunters with farmers
  • limited, if any, focus on ethical environmental practices (with the exception of FreeFishHeads)

LAYOUT:

  • the best ones, e.g. huntinglocator.com and FreeFishHeads were interactive and had clean clear navigation
  • log-in area for member area of the website
  • separate log-in pages for Hunters and Farmers
  • interactive maps - click on the region you want to 'search' or 'connect' with
  • visual
  • the best ones had clearly outlined terms and conditions / disclaimers
  • possible video of company ethos / why we exist

OTHER FACTORS TO CONSIDER

  • Commercial partners as well as donors and sponsorships
  • Overarching principles - not just 1080 but other poison in the environment used to eradicate 'pests'
  • Where will we put documents required for registration or will those who register then get sent a pack to sign
  • Do we show images and prices of the wholesale product?
  • Will we look to require GPS co-ordinates or proof of land ownership
  • We could charge for premium accounts that gives greater access to top farmers and properties, perhaps we could look at discount offers if they hold a Hunting and Fishing membership or a Farmlands membership
  • Whether or not to have 'off seasons' and close applications for a period when there is less hunting / small game available
  • Look up the relevant law for who is required to ensure there is a firearms license - eg is it the land owners responsibility?
  • Allowing local community people to donate via offering permanent stationary coolers instead of just using Big Chill depots?
  • We could charge companies to advertise for events and hunts

Overall: Consider it as being an end-to-end process to ensure 'best practice' adheres to company ethos improving environmental impact of 'pest' eradication (mitigating the need for and use of poisons such as 1080) while also bridging the gap between hunters and farmers
  • hunter and farmer connect
  • hunter drops caracasses at Big Chill depot
  • Big Chill deliver to approved processing plant
  • Processing plant sends orders provided by Pests-For-Paychecks to applicable meat/skin/fur wholesale companies
